How to Navigate This Blog
Welcome to the blog.
This site is a growing collection of stories, retellings, ideas, and reflections drawn from the literary and intellectual traditions of India. The aim is to make these stories easier to read, follow, and explore.

The blog is organised into different sections. You can either browse through the latest posts or follow a particular collection from beginning to end.
How Often Will New Posts Be Published?
To maintain a consistent routine, I plan to publish a new post on the blog every alternate day, beginning on 28 July 2026.
The different collections will gradually grow over time. As new posts are added, the relevant hub pages, indexes, and links will also be updated.
I plan to review and update the section hub pages and their links every weekend. This should make it easier for readers to find new posts and follow a collection in the correct order.
That is the plan.
Now comes the challenge of sticking to it!

How to Use the Navigation Menu
When you visit the home page, you will find a featured post followed by the main navigation bar.
The navigation bar is the easiest way to explore the different sections of the blog.
Clicking on Home will take you to the main home page.
This is the best place to find the latest featured content and get an overview of what is currently being published.
Clicking on Niti Related will take you to the hub page for posts related to Niti — ideas concerning conduct, practical wisdom, relationships, decision-making, leadership, and human behaviour.
This section will lead to the major collections based on:
- Panchatantra
- Hitopadesha
The relevant hub pages will contain links to the different books, stories, and related posts.
If you wish to read a particular collection from the beginning, the hub page should provide the links needed to follow the stories in sequence.
Clicking on Itihasa Purana will take you to the Itihasa page.
The word Itihasa is commonly understood as meaning “so it happened” or “thus it happened.”
This section will eventually include posts related to:
- Ramayana
- Mahabharata
- Puranas
I plan to begin developing these collections after completing the current Niti-related posts.
As these sections grow, the hub pages will be updated with links to the different stories, characters, events, and themes.
A Note About the Ramayana and Mahabharata
I plan to cover the Mahabharata of Kashidas and the Ramayana of Krittibas.
However, I am not currently planning to reproduce either Bengali text from beginning to end.
Instead, I plan to focus on selected stories and sections.
This may include:
- stories and episodes found in the Bengali versions but not in the Sanskrit texts;
- stories and episodes found in the Sanskrit texts but not included in the Bengali versions;
- significant differences between the Bengali and Sanskrit traditions;
- stories that have developed differently in the two traditions; and
- interesting additions, omissions, variations, and interpretations found in the Bengali retellings.
In other words, the intention is not to provide a cover-to-cover retelling of either the Ramayana of Krittibas or the Mahabharata of Kashidas — at least, not at this stage.
The focus will instead be on exploring the stories, variations, and differences that make these texts particularly interesting.
The Stories and Classics section is intended for stories from different classical works.
This section will not be limited to a single text or tradition. As new collections are added, this page will be updated with links to the relevant posts.
At present, this section is still being developed.
Clicking on About This Site will take you to a page explaining the purpose of the blog, its background, and the kind of content you can expect to find here.
If you are visiting for the first time, this is a good place to begin.
Where Should You Begin?
If you are new to the blog, you can simply start with the latest post on the home page.
However, if you prefer to read a particular collection from the beginning, visit the relevant hub or index page.

Want to read stories about practical wisdom?
Start with the Niti-Related section.
Want to explore the Panchatantra or Hitopadesha?
Visit the relevant collection through the Niti-Related hub page.
Want to explore the Ramayana, Mahabharata, or Puranas?
