Understanding Niti Shastra and Related Stories

Niti Shastra is not a single book. It is a working manual which teaches one how to live, govern, and survive in a world full of flatterers, false friends, and hard choices. Rather than teach this through lecture or maxim, Panchatantra and Hitopadesha chose the story form: tales that let princes absorb the knowledge the way we all learn best — by watching someone else make the mistake first. The stories could say things about power and folly that would have been dangerous to say plainly about kings.

I shall be telling tales from these texts here. Read them, enjoy the tales, learn from them and share them with others.
